Preliminary results of a two-compartment phantom for quality controls in clinical BOLD fMRI at 3T.

A two-compartment gel phantom for quality controls in fMRI is presented. It is made of concentric cylinders: the inner one contains two gel solutions corresponding to the "baseline" and "active" state; the outer one is filled with the same gel of the "baseline" compartment. Measurements were carried out on a GE Discovery MR750 3T scanner with an EPI sequence. The inner cylinder in the BOLD simulation was moved every 30 s. Two parameters were evaluated: Percent Signal Change and t-maps. The phantom proved to be helpful both for testing the scanner sensitivity and for the BOLD simulation of the signal.
