Metamaterials in particle accelerators.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in fabricated structures that mimic known material and/or have new realizable response in terms of permittivity $\varepsilon$ or permeability $\mu$. The present work, inserted in the INFN project MICA, was born with the idea of using these "metamaterials" in the accelerators field. In particular, the aim is to find a valid alternative to ferrite, now used in LHC collimators at CERN to reduce the collimator Beam Coupling Impedance, avoiding their degassing problems. Narrow-band (SRRs) and broad-band working metamaterials have been analysed to damp single Higher Order Modes or multiples HOM, respectively.
