Characterization of scintillator crystals for the GPI at ELI-NP Gamma Beam System.

This work is part of the EuroGammaS Consortium for the production of a monochromatic and tunable gamma source by inverse Compton at the research facility ELI-NP. Gamma Profile Imager is an important component of the gamma beam diagnostic system because it allows to check the alignment and the spatial distribution of the beam. It consists of a scintillator screen placed at 45 degrees with respect to the gamma beam, a CCD camera and a lens system to focus onto the CCD the scintillation light. In order to have a significant image in a reasonable time the target used should have a high interaction efficiency and a good light yield. The aim of this work is to characterize different scintillator crystals used in the prototype of the GPI in order to determine the appropriate target capable to suit the measuring conditions required.
