Jarvik 2000 ventricular assist devices: preliminary measurements under high energy photon beams.

Ventricular Assist Device implantation improves outcomes and quality of life of patients with heart failure. When exposed to radiotherapy, it is crucial to ensure device functionality. The aim of this work (first on Jarvik 2000 VAD) was to perform measurement of battery duration $in vitro$ setting under high energy photon beams. The VAD was irradiated under 6 MV, 10 MV and VMAT plan with 1000 UM and after each session it was running until battery end of life. No changes were recorded for battery life or from power indicator on controller. Future measurements will involve power, RPM and flux $in vitro$ condition under clinical dose.
