Although the Pauli Exclusion Principle (PEP) represents a fundamental principle of modern physics, it is extremely important to test the possible limits of its validity. We present a method of searching for small violation of PEP by electrons through the search of PEP-forbidden X-ray transitions in copper atoms, realized by "fresh" electrons introduced in a copper target by circulating a current. We present and discuss the final results obtained by VIP, and the first results obtained with the VIP2 experiment, a major upgrade of VIP, running at the underground LNGS laboratory of INFN.
