Piezoelectric nanofibers can measure vibrations, acceleration and tiny forces. We introduced flexible piezomaterials consisting of sheets of aligned nanofibers of poly(vinylidenefluoride) copolymers, enabling ultra-high pressure sensitivity and integration in accelerometers and nano-generators. We investigated the complex electromechanical interaction among fibers and the piezomechanisms in individual nanostructures. More complex systems realized by doping with light-emitting molecules unveiled mechanically tuneable interactions at nanoscale, which makes the nanofiber emission sensitive to tensile stress. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Research Council under the European Union's 7th Framework Programme (FP/2007-2013)/ERC Grant Agreement No. 306357 (ERC Starting Grant NANO-JETS).
