The SaTellite Radar sounder for eArTh sUb-surface Sensing (STRATUS) is a radar for Earth observation conceived for operating from satellite platform. STRATUS is designed to acquire direct measures on the sub-surface and address groundbreaking science goals related to cryosphere and arid areas. The design poses several challenges in terms of: penetration and range resolution; clutter effects; ionosphere distortions; and frequency allocation. STRATUS will be the first satellite instrument for Earth sub-surface analysis, thus filling a gap in the currently available Earth Observation missions. This presentation will provide the updates on activities in progress in Trento for the design of STRATUS.
