Agriculture has a key role in shaping the landscape and exploiting natural resources; sustainable agriculture aims at developing approaches to crop production able to respect the environment and reduce negative impacts. These objectives can be achieved also thanks to new technologies aiming at optimizing the use of resources by monitoring crop status and development. Earth Observations (EO) from satellite, aerial and UAV platforms, are a unique source of data/information on crop distribution, phenology, vigor, and occurrence of stress conditions with a synoptic view over large areas and frequent observations during the season. An overview on the use of EO data for monitoring agriculture will be provided in this communication.
