WhaleSafe project aims at preserving both sperm whales and boats from unwished collisions in Santuario Pelagos, near Savona (Italy). The system, initially designed upon two couples of mother buoys connected with their daughters, suffered from an accident during the pre-production test phase. A new system, based on a single couple of buoys, is proposed. The mother buoy provide power from Sun and wind to its daughter hosting four hydrophones and an acquisition system located at 80 m depth. The localization of the target makes use of the signal from the source combined with the one reflected from the sea surface.
