The investigation of the neuronal network (NN) in mouse spinal cord (SC) models represents the basis for the research on neuro-pathologies. We investigated SC mouse neuronal architecture using X-ray Phase-Contrast Tomography with a spatial resolution of 640 nm, without any aggressive sample preparation or sectioning. The high quality of the obtained images enables a quantitative study of the neuronal structure. We developed and applied a tool based on a spatial statistical analysis of the motor-neurons to obtain quantitative information on their 3D arrangement in the healthy-mice spinal cord and in pathological systems for a comparative investigation of neurodegenerative diseases and therapies.
