Search for Lorentz and CPT symmetries violation in double-beta decay using data from the GERDA experiment.

Unifying quantum mechanics and general relativity is a central goal in physics. Many versions of quantum gravity foresee the breakdown of Lorentz and CPT symmetries at the Planck scale. The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics assumes complete invariance under Lorentz and CPT transformations. Direct observations at the Planck scale are not yet possible, but physics beyond the SM at very high energies can produce effects at low energies, for example in the neutrino sector. We discuss the presence of a Lorentz and CPT-violating double beta decay mode using data of the GERDA experiment at LNGS in Italy.
