Microscopic monitoring of exposure-based 3D printing processes.

3D printing is enabling the fabrication of objects with complex architectures, even though the production of 3D photonic structures with optical transparent elements is still limited by the poor uniformity of the printed structures. Here we investigate photopolymerization-based 3D printing processes in real-time, by $in situ$ confocal microscopy. The analysis of the photo-polymerization kinetics allows the different polymerization regimes to be investigated and the influence of process variables to be rationalized.
