Advances in superintense laser interaction with nanostructured foams.

The combined adoption of superintense ($I>10^{18}$ W/cm$^2$) laser pulses and nanostructured materials, with controlled and tailored properties, allows the investigation of novel regimes of elecromagnetic radiation interaction with matter. Highly porous, low-density nanostructured materials (foams) attract particular interest. In this presentation, experimental and theoretical results regarding laser-foam interaction and related ion acceleration will be discussed, together with recent advances in the production of foams with pulsed laser deposition. Special focus will be given to the preparation of targets used in laser-driven ion acceleration experiments and to numerical approaches to interpret the experimental findings.
