Non-equilibrium discharges for $CO_{2}$ conversion: Principles, diagnostics and application.

Carbon dioxide dissociation is energetically demanding. To make it competitive, we are exploring plasma chemistry conversion through fast-transient electrical discharges. Repetitive pulses of short (order of 10 ns) discharge events push the gas towards extreme non-equilibrium conditions with high electron and vibrational energy but low heath loss. In this talk the working principles of fast discharges are briefly examined, together with the challenging task of transient species diagnostics. Recent results on conversion rates and efficiencies are presented, with and without the addition of an heterogeneous catalysis gas treatment step for the control of products selectivity.
