Dosimetric study for preclinical small animal hadrontherapy using Geant4 toolkit.

The scope of this preclinical study was to perform a particle treatment inoculated of cancer cells in small animals and to realize a preclinical hadrontherapy facility. A homemade small animals positioning system and an accurate Monte Carlo simulation were developed. The Geant4 application includes, inside Advanced Example Hadrontherapy, the possibility to use the DICOM images as target. The application is used to assess dosimetric and LET distribution using real target composition. Dosimetric measurements were performed to validate and to determine the application efficiency. This work has been carried out to implement interesting future $in vivo$ studies using small animals at INFN-LNS.
